Introduction
Are you a keen reader who is keen to share your passion for reading with younger children? Are you interested in working with other young people to design and run events and activities for children to encourage them to read for pleasure? Are you keen to learn new creative skills, including games design?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this work experience might be for you.

Background
In 2025 Rotherham became the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture, designed and delivered by local children and young people aged 0-to-25. We are now delighted to be developing some exciting legacy projects, and you can be a part of the programme, by joining one of our Children’s Capital of Culture work experience groups! In 2026, it is the National Year of Reading, so our work experience is focused on developing new young Reading Champions for Rotherham.
Reading Champions
In 2026 we are recruiting young people to become Rotherham’s Young Reading Champions for 2026 so you will need to be someone who is passionate about reading (whether this is novels / non-fiction / poetry / games / comics / films / podcasts) – we are seeking young people who are passionate about reading in all forms and who want to share that passion.
