Children's Capital of Culture 2023 Highlights

The Team's 2023 Highlights

We've rounded up the team's highlights of 2023! What was their favourite memory of the year?

Sarah Christie on WOW 2023.

"It’s hard to pick just one highlight from 2023, as it’s been an amazing year! From transforming a section of Rotherham Show into the Children’s Capital of Culture field, to our brilliant Silver Arts Award young people taking over the Rotherham Civic Theatre stage, to our trainees and alumni going from strength to strength as we support them in their creative careers, it’s been fantastic. If I had to pick just one highlight, though, I’d go for WOW Rotherham: a day jam-packed with joy, creativity, and terrible singing (thanks, Silent Disco). I especially loved seeing young people overcoming their fears as they shared their stories and performed on stage. And, of course, how our fantastic young employees helped plan and deliver the whole event!"

Ace on the Museum of the Moon College Art Exhibition:

“I think my favourite 2023 moment has got to have been the Museum of the Moon College Art Exhibition! I saw the Moon at Wentworth Woodhouse last year, and it certainly didn’t disappoint this year, too! It was amazing to see the colleges’ art students’ work underneath the Moon! There’s some amazing art talent in Rotherham, and it was a privilege to be able to help display some of it for the public to see!”

Abi on The Rotherham Show:

“WOW what a year 2023 has been! I think a highlight for me was definitely programming our brand-new Children’s Capital of Culture area at Rotherham Show 2023. It felt like a full circle moment for me. I have grown-up in Rotherham and have attended Rotherham Show for most of my childhood years, so to be able to programme and create something for other children and young people in Rotherham for 2023 was very special. That whole weekend was a whirlwind, from the early 7am starts to seeing all the brilliant youth talent that we were able to share with Rotherham was just amazing. Rotherham Show 2023 was when I released this was what I wanted to do as my career. I can’t wait for 2024 and 2025!”

Esther on Signals 2023: "The team have had so many highlights this year - but I'm a huge fan of festivals and got to work on the pilot Signals week this year! Getting to work on the festival when it was happening for the very first time was an incredible experience and I got to meet so many people and experience all the young talent from Rotherham. The AMP UP night in particular was really fun and it felt super special getting to talk to everyone and hear back on the opportunities that the festival had provided for them. Can't wait to do it all again in 2024!"
