Introduction

Children’s Capital of Culture are looking for a visual artist to create 4 signs that will be displayed at the Eastwood Funfest on the 7 of June 2025 at Eldon Road Playing Fields.

The commissioned artist will work collaboratively with children and young people in the community to co-create and co-design the signs. The signs will have titles that say free activities, a welcome sign, food, and honey stall, all designed and created by the chosen artist and young people.

This commission is part of the 2025 Children’s Capital of Culture festival year.

Brief

This year is Children’s Capital of Culture festival year, a year-long celebration of creativity, culture and community, taking place across Rotherham. As part of the festival year Children’s Capital of Culture will participate in the Eastwood Funfest. The Funfest is an annual event that takes place in the Eldon Road Recreation Ground, Rotherham. The event brings communities together through music, craft activities, and food, all to celebrate Eastwood, and this year’s theme is ‘Nature’.

We are looking to work with a visual artist who can demonstrate significant experience of working with children and young people, and who will support them to develop confidence and visual art skills through the co-creation of 4 signs. The signs must be no smaller than 2x2ft / 60cm x 60cm and feature the Eastwood Funfest theme of ‘nature’.

The 4 types of signs we want are a welcome sign, food, activities, and honey stall. The banners need to be durable, long-lasting, waterproof, and can be attached to a fence. Each sign should represent the selected topic but must be inspired by the young people’s ideas and co-created with the artist.

The artist will work with a youth group for 2 sessions; therefore, they must be available to work on a Tuesday evening at 4:00pm until 6:00pm leading up to May half-term, and on the 27 of May at 11:00am-1:30pm.
