About the traineeship and who can apply
What the traineeships will involve
All the traineeships involve working on creative projects for people across Rotherham and beyond to enjoy. Each traineeship is for 6 months, and the different traineeships have different working patterns, roles and responsibilities. Read on to find out more about the roles currently available.
All the traineeships are paid at a rate of £12.60 per hour (before tax). You will also get holiday pay, sick pay and pension contributions. All trainees will also benefit from training and mentoring, and we will work with trainees to try to make sure we are meeting your development needs.
Who is delivering the traineeships
The traineeships that are due to begin in October 2025 are available with 3 different host organisations: RMBC Green Spaces, Skills Street and Grimm & Co,
Who can apply to become a trainee
To apply to become a trainee, you must:
- be aged 16-to-25
- live, work, or study in Rotherham
- not have previously been employed on a traineeship with Children’s Capital of Culture
- be available to work either two or three days a week. These days are normally worked during the working week (Monday to Friday), and as such these posts are not suitable for young people in full-time education (e.g., with a timetable that means you are in school, college, or university four or five days a week).
To be eligible for these roles, you must also be able to supply at least two references that cover a period of the past three years. These references could be academic (from a teacher or lecturer), employment (from a current or previous employer), or personal (from a trusted adult, like a youth worker or sports coach). They can’t be from parents, carers, or close family friends.
You must also be able to supply documents that prove you have a Right To Work in the UK and that mean we can carry out an Enhanced DBS check for you. If these lists of documents are a bit confusing, please don’t worry; we’ll explain more about this if you’re invited to the recruitment morning.
