Green Spaces: Green Spaces Trainee
Introduction
The Green Spaces Service in Rotherham is dedicated to enhancing, supporting, and protecting the cultural and natural heritage of urban public parks, countryside, woodlands and lakes as places for nature.
It manages a diverse range of sites, including large parks like Thrybergh Country Park and Clifton Park as well as smaller neighbourhood parks, recreation sites, playgrounds, countryside sites, and woodlands. The service aims to increase community engagement, biodiversity, and the long-term sustainability of green spaces.
The Green Spaces service focuses on conservation, management, and development of green and blue spaces. This includes extensive tree planting and woodland management efforts to enhance biodiversity and create resilient ecosystems.
They are looking for a Trainee to be involved in a variety of projects and work strands that focus on the conservation and enhancement of Rotherham's green spaces.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Tree planting and woodland management, helping plant trees and manage woodlands to boost biodiversity and create resilient ecosystems.
- Conducting site surveys to ensure establishment of trees and find safe places for new planting.
- Working alongside the Trees and Woodlands engagement officer to explore creative, community led ways to increase tree cover.
- Path maintenance, habitat restoration and management of public amenities,
- ensuring these spaces are safe, accessible, and enjoyable for the community.
- Engage in activities that promote environmental stewardship, sustainability and inspire others to care for their local environmental
- Support school and youth groups with outdoor learning and environmental workshops.
Essential Requirements
