About the role
What will the Young Artists in Residence actually do?
Our Movement & Dance Young Artist will…
- Lead on developing the movement and dance elements of this new theatre piece
- Support the development and delivery of creative workshops with young people across Rotherham, helping them explore ideas through movement.
- Collaborate with the Chol team, our new Young Company and the Music Artist to weave movement and dance into the final performance.
- Bring brilliant creative ideas that connect to young people’s lives, folklore, social justice and storytelling
Our Music Young Artist will…
- Lead on developing the musical elements of this new theatre piece
- Support the development and delivery of creative workshops, using music and sound to inspire and shape ideas.
- Collaborate with the Chol team, our new Young Company and the Movement Artist to integrate music into the final performance.
- Bring brilliant creative ideas around using music to tell stories, amplify voices and explore identity.
Both our Young Artist in Residence will be working in a team that values every voice and encourages shared decision-making.
Our supportive work environment recognises the importance of wellbeing, care and personal growth. The Chol team acknowledge that caring for their own team is as essential as caring for the communities we serve.
Where and when will the work will take place
Our two Young Artists in Residence will work on the project from the week commencing the 29th September to the end of December 2025.
This part-time residency offers flexibility in schedule to align with personal commitments, which could include studying, part-time jobs, parenting, or caregiving obligations.
You will need to spend approximately 1–2 days per week working on the project during this time (but this is flexible around your availability!)
You will be paid £2,000 for 16 days’ worth of work.
This time can be spread throughout the project in a way that works for you and the project. For example, 1 day’s worth of hours may be spread over you working at several shorter weekly sessions.
You’ll be working in schools and community spaces across Rotherham during the project. One of the performances will take place on the evening of Saturday 15 November at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
